The United States of America (USA) Chicago Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the rank and file of the party to prioritise discipline and unity to enable the party to win the 2028 general election.
It explained that discipline, unity and peace were the surest bet to engendering total support from Ghanaians and winning back the support of over one million party members, who refused to vote for the party in the 2024 election.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NPP-USA Chicago Chapter, Michael Kwame Appiah, who made the call, urged the leadership of the party to work to prevent divisions in the party, particularly in the upcoming party's internal elections.
"The party leadership in Ghana must work to prevent divisions and unnecessary conflict in the upcoming party internal elections such as Presidential primaries," he said.
Mr Appiah told the Daily Graphic that the Chapter was focused and committed to mobilise the Ghanaian community in Chicago and resources to contribute to the welfare, peace and prosperity of the party as well as their homeland Ghana.
He urged the party to be neutral in the conduct of the party's internal elections in order to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2028 general election.
"I'm calling for a free, fair and transparent party internal elections. I urge the leadership of the NPP to be neutral and fair to all candidates.”
"If we fail to manage our internal elections well, it will be tough for the party to return to government in 2028," Mr Appiah said.
He said he had observed that all the potential flag bearers in the party had no problem with each other, but rather with their supporters.
Mr Appiah, therefore, urged the potential presidential candidates to advise their supporters to promote peace and unity, emphasising that “without peace and unity, we can’t win the 2028 general election.
"We need every member of the party, including other political parties members to enable us to win an election.
We should not destroy ourselves,” he said.
Mr Appiah said the Chapter was dedicated to fostering strong connections with the NPP structures in Ghana, advocating progressive policies and empowering their members to be active participants in shaping Ghana’s future.
"We work together towards a brighter and more inclusive future where every Ghanaian at home and abroad can thrive," he said.
