The National Democratic Party (NDP) has paid tribute to its founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as the party’s “guiding light” whose influence reshaped women’s participation in politics and left an enduring imprint on Ghana’s democratic development.
The tribute was read on Friday, November 28, during the State funeral held at the Black Star Square, where thousands gathered to honour the former First Lady’s life and national contributions.
According to the NDP, Nana Konadu’s advocacy transcended partisan boundaries and extended onto global platforms, where she championed equality and social justice. Her work, the party noted, “gave rise to a new era of female participation in politics and governance,” inspiring generations of Ghanaian women to pursue leadership roles with courage.
The statement described her not only as a political leader but as a mother, mentor and visionary who believed firmly in service above self. Her moral strength, intellectual clarity and compassion, the party said, made her a unifying figure whose guidance shaped both the NDP and the individuals who worked closely with her.
The NDP emphasised that Nana Konadu embodied integrity in both public and private life, carrying herself with purpose and dignity.
“She taught us that leadership is not inherited but earned through sacrifice, courage and the pursuit of justice,” the tribute read.
Highlighting her patriotism, the party said her unwavering advocacy for the underprivileged reflected a lifelong commitment to national progress.
“She lived for Ghana, worked for Ghana, and left behind a legacy that will forever guide the path of the National Democratic Party and the nation at large,” they said.
