President John Dramani Mahama has called for stronger international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, stressing that Africa cannot tackle the growing threat alone.

Speaking during an interview at Chatham House in the United Kingdom on Monday, June 1, President Mahama said terrorism remains a global challenge that requires collective action among nations.

President Mahama noted that the Sahel region of West Africa has become the epicentre of terrorist activities, posing a significant threat to peace and security across the continent.

“Terrorism is not a threat to only one nation; it’s a threat to all of us. We need to work together. It needs international cooperation to deal with it,” he said.

He stated that Ghana remains committed to collaborating with international partners in addressing the menace, highlighting ongoing intelligence-sharing and joint security initiatives with several countries.

“In Ghana, our attitude is to cooperate with everybody who is interested in the fight against terrorism. We share intelligence with the United Kingdom, as well as joint exercises. We also do joint training programmes with Germany, France and the United States,” President Mahama added.

The President’s comments underscore growing concerns over the spread of extremist violence in the Sahel and the need for enhanced global partnerships to strengthen regional security.
