The Church of Pentecost in Bole District of the Northern Region has organised a three hour health walk to sensitise its members and the general public on the need for regular exercises to promoting their personal health.
The walk which begun from the premises of the church went through the principal streets of the town that covered a distance of two and half kilometres while other activities included a week long fasting and prayers for peace and development of the country.
The District Pastor of the Church Rev. Clement Achim Gyimah in an address to the participants after the Walk, said the Church had decided to put aside a week for its members to enable them interact and sensitise their neighbours on the need to keep their surroundings clean
The members are also to undertake the clearing of choked gutters in the township to destroy all breading places of mosquitoes, and to advice especially pregnant women and mothers to sleep under treated mosquito nets to protect them against malaria.
Rev. Gyimah urged members of the Church to embark more on regular body exercise including walking and reduce the use of always riding on vehicles and motor bikes so as to keep them in a better shape to improve and promote their healthy lifestyles.
The District Pastor used the occasion to urge the members to continue to remain righteous and holy to their maker, God, adding that righteousness exalts a nation.
Rev. Gyimah also advised the members to stay further away against immoral acts that could lead their catching the dreadful HIV/AIDS and other deadly diseases and urged married couples to remain faithful to their partners at all times.
He further advised parents to take advantage of the various government interventions such as the Capitation Grant and School Feeding Programme and others by sending their children especially the girl child to school.
The Pastor noted that since that July was the mid point for the country to meet the Millennium goals, there was the need for government to institute various measures to ensure that poverty, diseases and hunger were eradicated as contained in the Millennium development goals.
