The Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, has decided to stay in his private residence to save cost due to 300 percent rent increase of his rented bungalow by a landlady.
He told a meeting of the assembly that he recently received a letter from the landlady demanding a rent increase of his six-bedroom bungalow from GH¢150 a month to GH¢800 a month with four years' rent advance that will amount to GH¢28,800.
Mr Obeng said pleas to the landlady to reduce the rent and accept a one year rent advance failed and she gave him up to the end of May to quit the bungalow if the assembly could not afford the rent increase and the advance.
Mr Obeng said due to the poor financial position of the assembly he discussed it with the executive committee members and appealed to them to allow him to use his private residence as an official residence.
He said that would enable the assembly to save that money to finance development projects in the community.
Mr Obeng said the assembly had decided to terminate the construction and rehabilitation of classroom blocks in four communities in the municipality due to delay in the execution of the contracts as some of the contracts were awarded in 2007 and were expected to be completed within nine months.
The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Agyenim Boateng, commended the MCE for his wise decision to use his private residence to perform official duties and urged the assembly members to co-operate and support him to move the municipality forward.
