The Women's Reservation Bill could be back on Indian government's radar after the passage of the Finance Bill.
"We will take a call on the Bill after May one," a senior Minister said.
His comment is significant as it came a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the government's intention to bring the Bill in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament).
He said that the floor managers would decide on the precise date of its introduction in the Lower House. The Bill has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament).
The budget session of Parliament is concluding on May 7, giving government enough time for bringing the Bill in the Lok Sabha.
The Bill, which seeks to provide 33 per cent
reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and the state
assemblies, met with strong opposition from Yadav trio -- Mulayam Singh, Lalu Prasad and Sharad -- who have been demanding quota within quota.
The Bill has been hanging fire for more than a decade.
