The Madagascan transitional Prime Minister General Camille Vital on Thursday night accused the country's politicians and religious leaders of being behind the latest confrontations between two security forces.
Vital, who is also serving as the interim defence minister, said that these politicians and religious leaders were behind the failed mutiny by members of the National Gendarmerie Intervention Forces (FIGN), who were stopped by the Special Intervention Forces (FIS).
He was speaking to the press from the offices of the National Defence Ministry located at Ampahibe in the city centre.
Vital also declared that those involved will be arrested in the coming few days. "We have tangible evidence which they cannot deny," he announced.
In his press conference, he termed the failed mutiny that was caused by politicians and religious leaders as a regrettable act that can block a peaceful search of a solution to the country's political conflict.
The Prime Minister for the Highest Transitional Authority (HAT) vehemently denounced the manipulations that were being caused by
politicians, who are hostile to the peaceful march into the Fourth Republic.
He reiterated the prohibition of political street demonstrations, which have the tendency of disrupting public order.
He called on the population to remain calm because the mutiny by FIGN had been brought under control and all the necessary measures had been taken to maintain security within the capital and its environs.
Among the measures that have been taken, the HAT has decided to temporarily shut down the station of the Reformed Church (FJKM) Radio
Fahazavana, which literally means, the radio that brings light. This station is accused of inciting the people and it is the one that was used to call
people to assemble on Thursday morning.
