Mrs Elizabeth Amoah-Tetteh, Deputy Minister of Education, at the weekend appealed to women to avail themselves of the forthcoming District Assemblies elections, to increase their
participation in the decision making process.
Mrs Amoah-Tetteh made the appeal when she opened a day's workshop for 50 women on: "Increasing female participation in the District Assemblies'
Elections," at Twifo Praso in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District.
The workshop, which was sponsored by the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atti Morkwa, was aimed at sensitising and
encouraging women in the district to participate in the local level elections.
Mrs Amoah-Tetteh said there is no need for women to acquire a university degree before she could qualify to stand at the local level elections.
Mr Joseph Andoh, District Chief Executive, expressed regret that out of the 51 assembly members for the area only 12 are women.
He therefore appealed to women to show interest in the impending elections to serve as a springboard for them to secure leadership positions.
Mr Martin Luther Obeng, a lecturer at Takoradi Polytechnic, who was a resource person took the participants through pre and post election- day activities.
He reminded them that the district assembly concept is non-political and therefore aspirants should desist from using party slogans and colours
during their campaigns.
Mr Obeng asked the contestants to be fair, honest and truthful in all their dealings with the electorates.
