Military forces cracked down on protesters in three cities in Oman overnight, arresting protesters in
the process, officials said.
Armored vehicles and security personnel encircled a parking lot near a government building in Salalah, detaining activists who refused to leave, The Gulf News reported Friday.
Pictures of activists being handcuffed and led away were posted on Facebook and other social media Web sites. Anti-government protests have been ongoing since Feb. 25.
Activists also were arrested from outside the Shura Council and al-Khuwair Ministry offices in Muscat, witnesses said.
"They dismantled tents and took away everything," one activist, speaking anonymously, told The Gulf News Friday.
Crackdowns and arrests also were reported in Sur.
