The Brondby and former Portland Timbers goalkeeper has told the Ghana Football Association that he would not be able to honour the invitation, which prolongs his absence from the Black Stars after he withdrew from the 2017 Nations Cup squad as well.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah confirmed the news to KweséESPN, but would not elaborate on the reasons for Kwarasey's withdrawal.

It leaves Appiah with three home-based goalkeepers to rely on for the qualifier against Ethiopia and the friendlies in the US. They include Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan and Richard Ofori of defending league champions Wa All Stars.

While the coach is adamant that the squad can cope with any withdrawals, there are concerns about the lack of experience in the goalkeeping department. Appiah dropped Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper from the last three years, Razak Braimah, as well as regular back-up Fatau Dauda, who was first choice at the 2014 World Cup.
