Ghana has been handed the hosting right to stage the 2018 Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Northwest Africa Female tournament scheduled for Friday, Jan. 19-21 at the Achimota Cricket Oval, Accra. The three-day competition, aimed at rekindling the regional competition and to be the pathway for major championship, is expected to host other three African countries namely Nigeria, Gambia and Sierra Leone.
In view of this, team Ghana has started camping at the Jubilee Hall of the University of Ghana to fine-tune their preparations towards the tournament. The female cricket team poised to win the tournament would start their campaign against the Gambia on Friday, before facing Nigeria and wrapping up with Sierra Leone. The participating countries are expected to arrive in Ghana on Thursday, January 18.
However, Nigeria has requested to arrive three days earlier for camping and to acclimatize ahead of the competition. As part of measures to raise the required amount of 20,000 dollars for the competition, Tullow Ghana has given the Ghana Cricket Association GHC25, 000 whiles Parlays have also donated products and promised to donate an amount to the association to enable a successful hosting. Ghana finished third in the maiden edition held in Gambia three years ago.
