The Accra Turf Club (ATC), will continue with the New Year horse-racing on Saturday, February 2, with interesting pairings at the new race course at Borteyman, near Ashiaman.
The first race, will begin at 1330 hours with 13 crack horses competing in division ‘3B’ and ‘4A’, covering 1,400 metres of seventh furlongs.
The Novies Division, which features local horses and the toast for horse-racing fans, would start at 1430 hours with the distance of 1,600 metres of the eighth furlongs with 22 horses.
Eleven horses would be competing in the third race of division ‘2A’, ‘2B’ and ‘3A’ of the seventh furlongs covering 1,400 metres and would start at 1330 hours.
The fourth race, which would close the day, starts at 1600 hours with 19 horses and would be an exciting competition for horse-racing fans, due to the local breed of horses in the division ‘4B’ and ‘4C’, covering a distance of 1,200 metres of the 6th furlongs.
Meanwhile the last week first New Year races results were as follows.
The first race of division ‘4B’ and ‘4C’ was won by ‘African Queen’ with jockey David Ahinakwah while the second and third races were won by ‘Secret Lady’ and ‘Wonder Boy’ respectively with jockeys Denis Ahinakwah and Emmanual Charway.
The second races of division ‘3B’ and ‘4A’ were cancelled because of delay of the horse owners.
The third races saw an interesting result with ‘Kastani’ emerging the winner with ‘Pegasus’ and ‘Country Lover’ followed second and third respectively.
The last race of the day, was won by ‘Mr K’, one of the favourite horses of the fans they thought would not come back after, while ‘Sandal’ and ‘Who is Free’ emerged second and third respectively in the race.
