Mr. Princeworth K.D Anane, Technical Committee Chairman for the Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA), has called on corporate bodies and individuals to assist in the organisation of the 2019 GHATUSA Games.
The games, would see eight technical universities and two polytechnics battling for supremacy, between February 1-10, 2019 in Accra.
According to Mr Anane, despite their readiness to host the 10-day event, there was still the need for corporate and individual sponsorships, adding that the only source of funding was contributions from the various participating institutions.
“So far we are using the contributions from the institutions to organize the games, but we still need sponsorships from corporate bodies and individuals, to boost our efforts, as we are determined to host one of the best Games in the history of the country”.
Mr. Anane noted that the Accra Technical University (ATU), being the host, was ready to welcome the rest of the institutions to a memorable and an unforgettable GHATUSA games.
"All the venues are ready for the various sporting disciplines and the officials are ready to ensure a good competition.
“The teams are expected to arrive on Friday, with some technical meetings as the games are scheduled to follow on Saturday.
“The games would continue till Tuesday, where the official opening ceremony would be held and followed by a tourism day on Wednesday, after which there would be a break for the teams to rest and possibly nurse injuries, when needed”.
He said the opening ceremony would be climaxed with a football match between ATU and Bolgatanga, who are the defending champions, with most of the semi-finals binge played on Thursday with athletics taking the whole of Friday while the finals for the football would be played on Saturday ahead of the closing ceremony.
Among the participating schools are; ATU, Bolgatanga Polytechnic, Cape Coast Technical University, Ho Technical University, Koforidua Technical University and Kumasi Technical University, Sunyani Technical University, Takoradi Technical University, Tamale Technical University and Wa Polytechnic, would be competing in athletics, basketball, badminton, football, handball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
