The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia will start their 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign against the Antelopes of Angola in Group E on June 24 at the Suez Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.
In a group that houses, Mali and debutants Mauritania, the one-time winners Tunisia, who are also tournament favourites, would be seeking to announce their readiness for the trophy with a victory over the Angolans.
The 2004 winners Tunisia, seem to have much experience in all departments as compared to their opponents, aside playing in a comfortable zone, Egypt, which may come as an added advantage.
However, Angola would be going into the game as underdogs as they would be making their debut since 2013.
The Antelopes best ever achievement in the competition was in last 2008, when they reached the last eight and also reached the same level in 2010 as they hosts of the competition.
The Palancas Negras have being eliminated from the group stages in five of their seven previous appearances, including both of their last two 2012 and 2013 and this year’s event would be an opportunity to reverse the negative trends.
Tunisia looks good to pick the three maximum points at stake, but with the ongoing strong appearance by the minnows, a resilient side is expected and of course a possible surprise.
