The Ashiedu Keteke Sub-metro in Accra, was the next stop for the Tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Awareness campaign organised under the spirit of football competition, with over 5000 lives affected.
The campaign spearheaded by Afro Global Alliance Ghana and other partner – Aurum Institute and the Ghana Health Service under the theme; “It is time to end TB.”
The fourth edition was held at the Bubuashi Timber market in Accra, with an estimated 2000 residents in the area being screened for TB and HIV for free.
Lofty Football Club (FC) won the four-team tournament after beating A Nation team in the final by 2-1 to book their ticket in the grand final which would involve all the winners in the benefitted communities.
Chief Austin Arinze Obiefuna, Executive Director of Afro Global Alliance Ghana in an interview with the GNA Sports, described the fourth edition as a success, adding that, they took advantage of the football gala to screen over 2000 residents in the area.
“Stigmatisation of the diseases are actually reducing in the areas we have been to, because of the campaign awareness that is happening. TB and HIV are dangerous diseases because they are killing a lot of people. So we are encouraging people to try as much as possible to know their TB/HIV status to be able to prevent/control it. I'm happy that we are seeing a lot of improvement of the awareness creation," he said.
"As we are playing football we are also doing education as well on TB and HIV so we are given them all the information that they need to know."
