The Vice-President of the Ghana Deaf Sports Federation, Kingsley Asah, has made a passionate appeal to the government to expand access and ensure full participation of persons with hearing impairment in sporting activities.
He made the call at the official launch of Ghana's Deaf Sports team as they prepare to participate in the upcoming Deaflympics Games in Brazil.
Social inclusion
He said it was important for full inclusion of deaf persons into sporting activities as there were many of such persons with a lot of talent and needed the support of the state to excel at top competitions.
The Director of Sports Promotions at the National Sports Authority (NSA), Jeffery Kumi-Manzan Owusu, expressed his outfit’s willingness to provide all the needed support to the federation to ensure they have a successful tournament and ultimately win medals for the nation.
“The NSA is ready to provide all the support and logistics the team will need to perform in the upcoming Deaflympics Games and with the timely sponsorship from Asa Plus Destination, we are optimistic that this year's tournament will be an exceptional experience for all the athletes who will be participating in the games” he stated.
Ghana and four other African nations, Mali, Senegal, Egypt and Kenya have entered to participate in the Deaflympics at Caxias do Sul in Brazil from May 1 to may 5, 2022.
