According him the current allotted slots of nine for the Black bombers is inadequate, considering the prospect of more than nine boxers winning medals for Ghana at the games.

Mr Quartey indicated that the GBF would meet and discuss with the Minister of Youth Sports, Mr Mustard Ussif the possibility of supporting an increased number of boxers at the Games.

He revealed that out of a number of the 30 boxers in the team, it would be fair to give slots to half of that number since according to him all are capable of winning medals for the country.

“The nine slots is not enough. Boxing should be given similar support like football. We plan to meet the Minister of Youth and Sports to relay our grievances. We have a comparative advantage over the other discipline. This because  for the  past two decades there has not be any sports to win any medals for Ghana at any international tournament except boxing,” he noted.

He continue “ The attention given to the development of the sports is nothing to write wrote home about. It will therefore be prudent if additional slot are given to increase the chances of winning more medals” he said.

Commenting on the recent trials held by the GBF last Wednesday, he disclosed that 30 boxers have been selected to begin the  second phase of preparation, awaiting a pre-camp ahead of the 2022 commonwealth Games in United Kingdom.  

He stated that  the pre-camping will be use to select the best nine boxers for the games.

Mr Quartey noted that the  condition of  amateur boxers  is not the best and called for support from the government and corperate bodies to come to their aid.
