The players who paraded for Friends of Dansoman included former Black Stars Captain, Stephen Appiah; John Paintsil, Derek Boateng, Emmanuel Armah and Dan Quaye, Ablade Morgan, Sam Johnson, Peter Ofori Quaye, Godwin Attram, Joseph Boateng and Eben Dida.

Under the auspices of Shadrach Adjetey Sowah, the patron of Friends of Dansoman, organisers of the match, the players reminisced their heyday to the admiration of the large crowd.

After the two-hour contest, the players gathered at the Dansoman Datus Complex to share nostalgic moments of their playing days.

Purpose

Francis Dowetin, an executive of the Friends of Dansoman Club, told Daily Graphic that the occasion was to have fun and connect these former national assets for the common good of the society.

“We hope to preach the message of not overlooking your strength as a sportsman or woman, but rather recognise that, irrespective of your strength, the idea of sportsmanship can build communities when well utilised and brought together,” he stated.

He called on the government to work closely with the Friends of Dansoman Club to bring the former athletes together to mentor younger athletes.

Stephen Appiah called for greater collaboration among old and current players to help build Ghana football.

The management of Faith Ladies FC, who played a curtain-raiser, also presented a citation to Shadrach Adjetey Sowah for his contributions to football in Dansoman and its environs.

Mr Adjetey expressed gratitude to the former players for honouring his invitation and vowed to continue organising such competitions to enable the ex-stars to mentor the younger ones.
