Sprinter Sarfo Ansah stole the spotlight at the Ghana Athletics Open Championship held at the University of Ghana Stadium last Saturday, storming to victory in the men’s 100m final.
Ansah clocked an impressive time of 10.32 seconds, edging out his competitors in a tightly contested race that featured two false starts. Although the anxious sprinters jumped the gun twice, officials allowed the race to proceed without disqualifications.
On the third attempt, Ansah got off to a solid start and powered through with a blistering pace in the final metres to secure the win.
Another thrilling contest came in the men’s 400m final, where Isaac Nii Lamptey emerged victorious with a time of 46.52 seconds.
The race began with a strong showing from all competitors, but by the final stretch, it had turned into a fierce two-man battle. Lamptey found an extra burst of speed in the last 30 metres to pull ahead and take first place.
In the men’s 5000m, Ishmael Attah of the Ghana Armed Forces dominated from start to finish. The long-distance runner created a significant 10-metre gap early in the race and maintained his lead throughout, crossing the finish line in 14:43 minutes after a commanding final lap.
In the women’s 200m final, Janet Mensah also impressed, finishing first with a time of 25.04 seconds, outpacing her rivals to claim gold.
The championship featured top-level performances from several of Ghana’s finest athletes as they continue to build momentum ahead of upcoming international competitions.
