Foreign Secretary David Miliband said Friday that IAEA's resolution on Iran sends the strongest possible signal to Iran that its actions and intentions remain a matter of grave international concern.
Miliband spoke in response to news that the International Atomic Energy Agency on Friday passed a resolution on Iran. He said the resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors sends the strongest signal to Iran.
"As the resolution makes clear, Iran needs to comply with its obligations both to the IAEA and to the UN Security Council," he said.
"Unless it does this, it remains impossible for the international community to have any confidence in Iranian intentions."
The resolution called for the "full cooperation" of Iran to clarify all outstanding issues involving its nuclear program.
"Britain and other members have made it very clear that our hand is stretched out to Iran," Milibrand said. "We are waiting for Iran to respond meaningfully. But if it is clear that Iran has chosen not to do so, we will have no alternative but to consider further pressure on Iran, in line with the dual track policy we have been pursuing,."
It was reported that the resolution required Iran to stop construction on nuclear facilities in Qom.
Friday's action was the IAEA's first adoption of a resolution against Iran since February 2006.
