Uruguayans went to the polls on Sunday to choose a new president between left-wing Jose Mujica and his rival Luis Lacalle in a run-off election.
The voting began across the country at 8:00 am (1000 GMT) and was scheduled to end at 7:30 pm (2130 GMT). Preliminary results are expected shortly after the poll closes.
Some 2.5 million people are eligible to vote in Sunday's vote. Mujica, who has pocketed 49 percent of the votes in the first round of the election in October, is leading former President Lacalle six to eight percentage points in recent polls.
Lacalle of the center-right National Party garnered 29 percent of votes in the first round of election.
