Dr. Grace Bediako, Government Statistician, has stressed the need for the Regional Census Implementation committees to ensure that accurate and reliable data are obtained from the field for the 2010 Population and Housing Census.
Dr Bediako made the call during the inauguration of the Upper East Census Implementation Committee in Bolgatanga on Friday.
She called on stakeholders to institute effective mechanism to supervise and monitor enumerators on the field to ensure that they do not capture false information.
Dr. Bediako also asked the census committees to explain issues clearly and convincingly to the public in order to get everyone to participate in the exercise.
She explained that the census was very crucial for national development whilst the scope and magnitude of the exercise required the mobilisation of substantial resources to cover the various stages of the process.
Dr Bediako noted that Government is committed to the exercise and had so far allocated about 58 per cent of its resources for the exercise.
She said the 2010 budget, provided 32 million Ghana Cedis for the project whilst her outfit is sourcing for more funds for the exercise.
Inaugurating the 12-member census committee of the region, the Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo charged them to live up to their responsibilities by ensuring that the area achieve the best results during the exercise.
He appealed to the committee to use money that would be released by the government to them for the exercise judiciously.
The Chairman of the Regional Census Implementation Committee, Mr. Gilbert Nuri-teg on behalf of his colleagues pledged to work hard to ensure the effective implementation of the census.
