Government has taken steps to get the Ahwiaa Wood Company, which was shut down in June 2008, back to operation.
Mr. Musah Abu-Juam, Technical Director, at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, said the Ministry had been tasked to enter into negotiations with the Merchant Bank to rejuvenate the company.
He called on workers of the company to be calm and help protect assets of the company including its timber concessions.
Mr. Musah Abu-Juam, who addressed the workers at a meeting at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre District, and listened to their concerns, was expected to report to the sector minister.
The company was incorporated in 1974 as a subsidiary of the Timber Marketing Board and for two years now, the workers have not received salary.
They alleged that there had been illegal logging in the company's concession and called for thorough investigation.
Mr. Musah Iddissa, District Chief Executive, praised the workers for demonstrating maturity and asked them to be patient as government was finding ways of dealing with the situation.
