The Copyright Office on Friday said some people have been extorting monies from unsuspecting video and audio compact disc dealers under the pretext of providing them mandate to freely exhibit
copyright works including pirated copyright works both local and foreign on the market.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Bernard K. Bosomprah, Copyright Administrator said "the Copyright Act is the law that governs copyright matters in the country.
"The office wishes to inform the public that whoever pays any amount pertaining to copyright does so at his or her own risk. Infringing copyright protected works still remains a crime punishable under the Act," it added.
The statement warned the public to desist from patronising any such illegal business.
