India's Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will visit Bangladesh on Saturday to attend the
signing of USD one billion credit facility extended by Exim Bank for infrastructure projects in the host country.
Mukherjee's trip is the first by a high-profile Indian leader since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited New Delhi in January this year.
Besides meeting Hasina, Mukherjee would also hold talks with his Bangladesh counterpart Abul Mal Abdul Muhith and foreign minister Dipu Moni during his short, four hour trip.
Mukherjee is expected to review the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries during Hasina's India visit.
Foreign ministry officials said the entire gamut of bilateral relations and issues, including Teesta river water-sharing, was likely to come up for discussions between the visiting minister and Bangladesh leaders.
"The Finance Minister of India will witness signing of the USD 1 billion Line of Credit agreement by CMD, EXIM Bank of India, and Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD) of
Bangladesh," an Indian High Commission statement said earlier.
The credit deal was agreed upon during Hasina's visit to New Delhi.
The joint communique issued after Hasina's talks with her Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh had said that the USD 1 billion credit will be for a range of projects for development of communication infrastructure, mostly in railway sector, and dredging in major rivers.
