The Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has inaugurated its newest state of the art branch at the campus of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) here. The branch is located a few metres away from the main entrance of the UPSA and features two banking halls and a 24-hour automatic teller machine (24/7 ATM).
The UPSA branch, which expands UMB’s networks to 31, has generated a lot of interest among tertiary students. The bank has invested resources to execute both financial and non-financial initiatives to grow the bank’s student customer base.
Dignitaries who graced the event included the Chancellor of UPSA, His Royal Majesty, Drolo Bosso Adamtey, and the Chancellor of the UPSA; the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Mr Amadu Sorogho; and the Dean of Students of UPSA, Mr Mawuli Feglo.
The Chief Executive Officer of UMB bank, Mr John Awuah, stated: “It is no secret that UMB bank has a very special relationship with students. "Over the past two years, we have witnessed how the youth in Ghana, especially tertiary students, have embraced our brand and continue to sign up for our Aspire student account."
Mr Awuah lauded the transformation of UPSA into a world class university and praised the management for its visionary leadership. He also said the UMB bank decided to establish the UPSA branch because the bank and the university shared a mutual passion for developing the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.Mr Awuah also encouraged the students not to allow challenges and limitations to force them to give up on their dreams.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of UPSA, His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey, congratulated the UMB Bank for choosing to establish its presence on the campus of the UPSA. He urged the bank to work together with the UPSA for the mutual benefit of both institutions.
The UMB Bank’s Director of Retail Banking, Mr Lawrence Appiah-Baiden, said the launch of the branch was part of a holistic strategy to entrench UMB bank’s presence in the student category. Mr Appiah-aiden also explained that while the bank was expanding its physical presence, it had also invested heavily in technology to provide cutting edge convenience to customers.
“Digital technology usage is very high among tertiary students and we recognize that, to engage them effectively, we have to be at the forefront of technology,” he stated. He added that in the coming months, UMB bank would be opening more branches on several university campuses throughout the country.
