Angola’s premier event for the oil and gas sector, the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) Conference and Exhibition, took place in Luanda from September 13-14.
Hosted in partnership with Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the African Energy Chamber, Sonangol and the IRDP, the event was a resounding success, with several milestones achieved.
VIP Speakers Spearhead Discussions
AOG 2023 featured keynote addresses and presentations from a strong slate of government officials, global energy major executives, and key players from the international oil and gas market.
High-level speakers included Haitham al Ghais, Secretary General, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); José De Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Republic of Angola; Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Republic of Angola; and Didier Budimbu Ntubuanga, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Additionally, keynotes were delivered by Guido Brusco, COO of Natural Resources, Eni; Mike Sangster, Senior Vice President: Exploration and Production in Africa, TotalEnergies; NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, the African Energy Chamber, and many more.
OPEC Anniversary Celebrations
Angola commemorated the OPEC and renewed its commitment to market stability on the second day of AOG 2023, which coincided with the 63rd anniversary of the Organization that was founded on September 14, 1960 in Baghdad. Speaking at AOG 2023, OPEC Secretary General, Haitham al Ghais stated that, “Celebrating this anniversary in Luanda reflects the importance of Angola for OPEC.”
Seven Industry-Focused Deals Signed
The AOG 2023 conference featured the signing of seven industry-advancing deals.
Agreements were signed between Azule Energy and national oil company Sonangol; environmental management company Ambipar and energy firm Kini Energias; oil and gas company ETU Energias and global technology company SLB; and insurance company Protteja Seguros and oil and gas company Petromar.
Additionally, the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency signed cooperation agreements with three universities – Universidade Agostinho Neto; Catholic University of Angola; and Instituto Superior Pliténico de Tecnologias e Ciências.
Technical Track Explores Trends, Opportunities
In addition to the conference program, AOG 2023 featured a technical program exploring the latest trends in Angola’s oil and gas industry.
Technical sessions were led by services and management consulting firm Aon Neil Genders and insurance and risk management firm Energy & Power Marsh while a Masterclass was conducted by investment law firm MC Jurist and contracting business firm Enerveo.
Key topics of discussions included a roadmap to successful bids and performance of contracts in Angola; key trends and challenges faced by the insurance industry; and cyber-security, climate-related risks and regulations; and more.
AOG Awards Ceremony Honors Industry Trailblazers

AOG 2023 Awarded Carbon Credit-Free Event Certificate
The AOG 2023 conference achieved a significant milestone by receiving a prestigious carbon-free event certificate from AMBIPAR Environment Management.
This accolade underscores AOG 2023’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
AMBIPAR’s carbon measurement system calculated emissions generated by the conference and bought carbon credits. With that credit money they will plant trees in the Amazon.

The AOG 2023 exhibition was a testament to innovation, digitalization, and the pivotal role of local enterprises in Angola’s oil and gas industry. Showcasing cutting-edge technologies and forward-thinking solutions, the exhibition provided a platform for project developers, service providers, and local companies to engage in one-on-one exchanges.
Panelists Explore Critical Topics
The two-day event featured panel discussions, deal-signings, keynote speeches, technical presentations and Q&A sessions, covering the most pressing topics in Angola’s oil and gas market. During the first day, panel discussions included Decarbonizing Oil and Gas in Angola; Fostering Diversity, Inclusion and Mentorship; Mobilizing Capital for Angola’s Infrastructure; and Sustainable Synergies.
On the second day, discussions shifted towards practical strategies for expanding the industry, with topics comprising Optimizing Angola’s Gas Potential; Integrating Local Players into Angola’s Downstream Sector; Transport and Logistics; Financing SMEs in Angola’s Oil and Gas Sector; The Strategic Imperative of Local Content; CSR Strategies; and Youth and Energy.

Over 131 local and international media companies provided coverage of the AOG 2023 conference. From producing articles based on the conference program to conducting interviews with delegates, speakers and VIPs to promoting panels, networking functions and deals, this coverage enabled AOG 2023 discussions to go global.
Global Representatives Participate in Angolan Event
Over 1,200 delegates attended the AOG 2023 conference in Luanda. The event featured the participation of 54 companies, with delegates, speakers and sponsors travelling to Angola from various parts of the world. From Africa, representatives from South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Senegal, South Sudan and many more participated.
Globally, countries represented included Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland and more. This wide representation underscores the interest and opportunity in Angola’s oil and gas industry.
