MTN Ghana brought its MCare platform, an initiative aimed at transforming the way people access healthcare services, to students on the University of Ghana, Legon campus on the final day of its Y'ello Care program. This innovative platform was part of the company's efforts to bridge the digital divide and make healthcare more accessible to a wider audience. By leveraging technology, MCare enables users to access healthcare services from the comfort of their own homes, reducing the need for physical hospital visits.
According to Cynthia Mills, Economic Empowerment Advisor at the MTN Ghana Foundation, the company was on track to achieve its target of onboarding 2,000 people onto the MCare platform. "Our target for the whole Yellow Care period was to onboard 2,000 people," she said. The platform, which could be found on the myMTN app, offered a monthly subscription of GHC10.00, but MTN has absorbed the first month's subscription for users who signed up during the Yellow Care program. Ms. Mills added that the response to the platform had been overwhelmingly positive, with people nationwide expressing their appreciation for the service.
The MCare platform allows users to consult with doctors remotely, receive prescriptions, and access medical care from the comfort of their own homes. The Yellow Care program, which marked its 20th year, aimed to give back to the community through various initiatives, including healthcare and education. As part of the program, MTN Ghana had also distributed 500 school uniforms to deprived schools in the Central and Ashanti regions.
During the launch of the Y'ello Care program on June 4, 2025, the CEO of MTN Ghana, Mr. Steven Blewett, elaborated on the essence of MTN Yellow Care, saying, "Yellow Care is about volunteerism. It's the entire MTN across Africa, and every MTN country participates. In Ghana, all our staff volunteer, and each year, we have a theme. This year, it's about 'getting at the roots' - digital inclusion at the roots," he said.
