Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the much-anticipated Women’s Development Bank will be officially established early next year, aiming to enhance access to affordable financing for women entrepreneurs and small businesses across Ghana.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, November 14, Dr Forson said the strategy headed by the Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang on the formation of the bank is “impressive” and that he has had the privilege of reviewing the plans.
“The Vice President is leading the formation of the bank. Early next year, when the bank is officially launched, she will speak on its operations, and I am sure everyone will be happy,” he added.
In a significant financial commitment to support the initiative, Dr Forson has allocated GH¢401 million to the Women’s Development Bank. The funding is expected to strengthen the bank’s capacity to provide affordable loans and financial services to women-led businesses across the country.
The Minister highlighted that the bank is part of broader government efforts to empower women economically and ensure that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) led by women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.
