Ashanti Foam Factory Limited (Ashfoam) has donated mattresses and sofa chairs to 13 journalists honoured at the 29th Ghana Journalists Awards (GJA).
The presentation ceremony in Accra brought together GJA leadership, Ashfoam executives, and the awardees.
Addressing the gathering, Ashfoam’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Mr Nana Yaw Ampem-Darku Antwi, said the company’s support reflects its appreciation of the media’s pivotal role in national development.
“As a corporate entity whose survival depends on communicating ideas and promoting products, we recognise journalists as an indispensable link between businesses and their audiences,” he said, adding that the media’s work, often under challenging conditions, exposes critical issues in health, the environment, and national development while amplifying business efforts.
Mr Antwi noted that the expanded award categories motivated Ashfoam to support more winners this year, expressing hope to cover all awardees in future editions.
He also highlighted Ashfoam’s growth from a foam manufacturer into a one-stop home furnishing brand offering mattresses, sofas, curtains, linens, and furniture nationwide.
“Established in 1976, the company remains committed to promoting made-in-Ghana products and supporting national institutions, including the GJA,” he indicated.
GJA President, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, expressed gratitude to Ashfoam, describing it as a dependable partner amid shrinking funding for media programmes.
He announced that corporate support now extends to over 10 awardees, up from just three in previous years.
Mr Dwumfour also raised concerns about fake and substandard mattresses in Ghana, calling on journalists to investigate illicit operators.
To encourage such reporting, he announced a special award at the 30th GJA Media Awards, supported by Ashfoam with GH¢5,000 and product sponsorship, for any journalist who conducts an impactful investigation into fake mattress circulation.
