As cyber threats targeting governments, financial institutions and critical infrastructure continue to rise globally, organisations across both the public and private sectors in Ghana are intensifying efforts to strengthen the resilience of their digital systems.
Against this backdrop, global connectivity and cybersecurity company Cloudflare, in partnership with its West African partner Comsec Technology Solutions, has hosted a three-day cybersecurity seminar series in Accra.
A statement issued by the organisers said the initiative aimed at strengthening cyber resilience and protecting Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital economy from sophisticated cyber warfare, including large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks.
It said the seminar comes as Cloudflare continued to expand its global network infrastructure, including the establishment of network nodes in Accra to support faster, more reliable and secure internet services across Ghana and the wider West African region.
The nodes are designed to mitigate cyber threats closer to their source, improving the ability of organisations to defend their digital platforms against attacks.
“The seminar series brought together industry leaders, technology professionals and key decision-makers from organisations that form the backbone of Ghana’s digital economy,” it added.
The statement said participants included representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, telecommunication companies and other essential service providers.
It said the event also saw participation from officials of the Cyber Security Authority, who emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions, international technology companies and local industry stakeholders.
The Authority highlighted the importance of building a coordinated cybersecurity ecosystem to support efforts towards creating a secure digital environment in the country.
It said during the sessions, cybersecurity specialists from Cloudflare shared global insights into the changing threat landscape and the growing sophistication of cyberattacks.
“Particular attention was given to the increasing incidence of DDoS attacks, which are designed to overwhelm and disrupt online platforms and services,” it added.
It said experts demonstrated modern and automated approaches for protecting web applications, application programming interfaces and internet-facing systems from such attacks.
The statement said technology specialists from Comsec Technology Solutions also provided practical insights on implementing cybersecurity strategies within the Ghanaian context.
They shared case studies of organisations that had successfully strengthened their digital security frameworks to withstand emerging cyber threats.
Mr Boaz Alon, the Chief Executive Officer of Comsec Technology Solutions, said cybersecurity had evolved from being an information technology concern to a critical pillar of business continuity and national trust.
He said initiatives such as the seminar series helped combine global expertise with local implementation experience to ensure organisations in Ghana remained resilient against cyber threats.
Mr Graham Turnbull, Account Executive at Cloudflare, noted that strengthening partnerships and investing in local digital infrastructure would help Ghanaian enterprises defend against sophisticated cyber threats while ensuring their digital services remained secure and accessible.
