TRADE between Ghana and the United States is set to deepen further as both sides explore new opportunities in agriculture and consumer products, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy, Rolf Olson, has said.
Speaking at a California tasting event held in Accra on Saturday, Mr Olson noted that Ghana remained one of the United States’ preferred trade partners, with strong demand for American goods among Ghanaian consumers.
He said events such as the tasting session were designed to strengthen business links and open up the Ghanaian market further to U.S. producers, especially in the wine industry.
According to him, the U.S. Embassy was committed to supporting partnerships that create opportunities for both American farmers and Ghanaian businesses.
Mr Olson welcomed a delegation of vendors from California, describing their products as world-class and competitive.
He encouraged Ghanaian importers, distributors and trade professionals at the event to explore partnerships that could bring more American products onto the local market.
He noted that California and Ghana share similar values, including strong entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and a commitment to quality.
These shared traits, he said, provided a solid basis for expanding trade and investment between both sides.
Mr Olson pointed out that California’s wine industry, built over generations, reflected the same energy and growth seen in Ghana’s evolving business environment.
This, he added, creates room for meaningful collaboration between producers and local partners.
The Chargé d’Affaires also highlighted the role of the U.S. Embassy, working together with the Foreign Agricultural Service, in facilitating trade connections that benefit both countries.
He stressed that such engagements were not only about promoting American products but also about creating value for consumers and businesses in Ghana.
Mr Olson expressed optimism that initiatives like the tasting event would lead to stronger trade ties and increased exchange between Ghana and the United States in the years ahead.
The event formed part of activities marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, dubbed “Freedom 250”, which is being used to showcase American innovation, creativity and enterprise across different sectors.
Participants at the event were given the opportunity to sample a variety of California wines and interact directly with producers, with the aim of building long-term commercial relationships.
