Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL) has donated medicines worth GH¢200,000 to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to support the fight against malaria.

The items included antimalarial drugs such as Lufart and Entramol, as well as blood tonics and other essential medicines to aid in the treatment of patients.

The donation formed part of the celebration of this year’s World Malaria Day, which fell on Saturday, April 25.

The donation forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility aimed at improving healthcare delivery.

Dr Christopher Mensah, the Managing Director of TPL, during the presentation, said malaria continues to be a major public health challenge in the country, particularly among children under five.

The disease, he said, continues to claim lives, especially in rural and low-income communities where poor sanitation and low use of insecticide-treated nets persist.

To support ongoing efforts to reduce malaria cases, Mr Mensah said TPL, under its Chairman, Dr Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin, presented assorted medicines to UGMC as part of activities marking this year’s World Malaria Day.

He reiterated TPL's commitment to supporting health care across the country to improve well-being and enhance productivity.

Dr Mensah said the donation was to support the hospital in delivering quality care to malaria patients.

The Director of Pharmacy at UGMC, Josephine Mensah, expressed gratitude to the company on behalf of the hospital’s management and urged the public to adopt preventive measures against malaria.
