MTN Ghana has organized an SME Business Clinic in Koforidua in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to support the growth and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises in Ghana.
The forum brought together about 150 SME operators and focused on building their capacities in areas such as financial management, bookkeeping, packaging, branding and emerging business technologies.
Head of SME Sales at MTN Ghana, Mohammed Abubakari-Sidik, said that the initiative formed part of MTN’s commitment to empowering businesses through education and digital solutions.
According to him, research had shown that although many SMEs contributed significantly to Ghana’s economy, several still faced technological and operational gaps that limited their growth and competitiveness.
He explained that the clinic sought to bridge some of those gaps by equipping business owners with practical skills and digital tools to improve their operations.
Mr Abubakari-Sidik noted that the Koforidua edition was the first of its kind in the Eastern Region and the third SME clinic organized by MTN this year after similar events in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
He said that MTN planned to organize three more clinics in other regions before the end of the year.
As part of the training, MTN introduced participants to its YellowBiz solutions, including internet connectivity services, website development support and customized business email domains aimed at improving credibility and visibility for SMEs.
He explained that the YellowBiz package also included Microsoft 365 services and digital tools that allowed businesses to strengthen communication and expand their reach beyond Ghana.
Mr Abubakari-Sidik added that MTN also showcased its “Business Eye” solution, a remote camera monitoring system designed to help business owners monitor activities at their shops and workplaces even when they were away.
He further highlighted “Adwumapa,” a support package targeted at women entrepreneurs, which offers affordable voice and data bundles, insurance benefits and access to a doctor-on-call service.
According to him, women managed more than half of SMEs in Ghana, making it important to design solutions that supported both their businesses and wellbeing.
Some participants who attended the clinic said that the programme had deepened their understanding of business operations and digital transformation.
They noted that the practical and theoretical sessions delivered by MTN and its partners would help them improve their businesses and position themselves for growth in increasingly competitive markets.
