Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, has announced an ambitious target to more than double Ghana’s tax revenue to over GH¢310 billion by 2028, as the Authority intensifies digital compliance reforms and revenue mobilisation efforts.

Speaking at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit on Thursday, May 28, Sarpong said the GRA’s renewed strategy is anchored on tax reforms, technology-driven compliance systems and stronger partnerships with the business community to strengthen Ghana’s fiscal capacity.

According to him, the country’s current low tax compliance culture places an unfair burden on a limited number of compliant businesses, making it necessary for the Authority to deploy digital tools capable of expanding the tax net and improving accountability.

He stressed that increasing domestic revenue mobilisation has become critical to Ghana’s economic sovereignty, insisting that the country cannot continue to depend heavily on external support while large portions of taxable income remain outside the formal system.

“We don’t have a choice. We must raise this revenue,” he emphasised while outlining the Authority’s medium-term fiscal projections.

The Commissioner-General further revealed that the Authority surpassed expectations in 2025 by mobilising GH¢182 billion in revenue and is now aiming to increase collections to GH¢225 billion in 2026.

Sarpong therefore called on corporate Ghana and the wider business community to support the GRA’s reform agenda, stressing that national development depends heavily on collective commitment to tax compliance and domestic revenue generation.

“This is not a bet. This is the work we must do, and that is the partnership we are asking all of you to forge withus,” he added.
