The 5th Forum on Carbon Neutrality Goals of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea will convene leading experts, policymakers, and stakeholders on 13 May 2026 at Waseda University, Tokyo. Jointly organized by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and Waseda University, the Forum serves as a key platform for advancing regional dialogue and cooperation on carbon neutrality. Building on previous editions, it will foster the exchange of policy approaches, innovative practices, and strategic priorities to accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon future in North-East Asia.
This year’s Forum places a special focus on the intersection of climate action and demographic change, particularly the implications of population ageing. As ageing societies reshape consumption patterns, infrastructure needs, and social systems, they present both challenges and opportunities for achieving carbon neutrality. At the same time, climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, including older persons, highlighting the urgency of integrated and inclusive policy responses.
By bringing together perspectives from across sectors and countries, the Forum aims to generate actionable insights and strengthen regional collaboration on sustainable, inclusive pathways to carbon neutrality. Participants will engage in forward-looking discussions on how to align climate strategies with demographic realities, ultimately contributing to resilient and people-centered solutions for a sustainable future.
