Lil Wayne's attorney Ron Sweeney of Sweeney, Johnson & Sweeney LLC has confirmed the rapper reached a settlement with Cash Money Records, issuing the following statement: "Per our settlement agreement, the matter has been amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. In terms of the particulars, we’re prohibited legally from saying anything further. I can say that my client is happy. He is his own man, a man that owns his assets, his music and himself. At some point, Wayne will let his fans know what’s going to happen next."
Lil Wayne has reportedly scored a big win in his ongoing legal battle with Cash Money Records on Wednesday (June 6), which means his long-delayed album Tha Carter V could arrive sooner than we think.
Court documents filed by Wayne's attorney Howard King (obtained by The Blast) claim that all sides in the lawsuit were willing to move forward and dismiss the suit. Sources also claim that Wayne walked away with a settlement of "well over $10 million."
Media maven Karen Civil has since taken to Twitter to clear the air. "A portion of the information released today is true, a settlement has been reached, but the dollar amount being disclosed is false," she wrote. "Lil Wayne’s PR team will send out a statement shortly with accurate updates."
Wayne and Birdman's strained relationship has played out in the public for years. In 2015, Wayne sued Cash Money for $51 million, claiming the record label violated his contract terms and withheld tons of money after delaying his album Tha Carter V several times.
In the years since, Wayne has called out the Cash Money CEO during multiple onstage performances and Birdman repeatedly promised the release of Carter V. Recently, things started to look up for Wayne and Birdman, as they were spotted together at a club back in March. Birdman posted a photo of him and Wayne at a club with the caption, "Me and my SON."
Billboard reached out to King, who had no comment.
