Jennifer Lopez's action film "The Mother" is one of Netflix's most watched movies of all time.
The Nick Caro-directed film, which was released May 12 during Mother's Day weekend in the US, has continued to rack up views and was the most watched English-language movie on the streaming service during the week of May 29 with 16.48 million hours viewed.
Its momentum pushed the movie into Netflix's list of its 10 most popular English-language films of all time, which the company calculates based on the number of hours viewed during a title's first 28 days on the platform. "The Mother" ranked No. 8 with 229.30 million total hours viewed. It trailed 2020's "Extraction" and surpassed 2022's "Purple Hearts." 2021's "Red Notice," which stars Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds, holds the No. 1 spot.
"The Mother" is the most recent movie in the top 10 list since "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," which Netflix began streaming in December 2023.
Lopez stars in the film as an assassin on the run who comes out of hiding to protect her daughter.
"The Mother" helped kick off an action-packed summer Netflix has been hyping up by appointing action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who leads its new series "Fubar," in the ceremonial role of Chief Action Officer and plugging an upcoming lineup that includes "Extraction 2" and season three of "The Witcher."
