The 1986 Year Group of Achimota School (OAA 1986) has officially launched and cut the sod for its 40th Anniversary Legacy Project with a night of hymns, psalms, and worship at the historic Aggrey Chapel on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
The event, themed “Honouring Our Clergy,” brought together old students of Achimota School widely known as Akoras, students, staff, clergy, and guests in an evening filled with thanksgiving and unity.
Among the dignitaries present were the Guest of Honour, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, and the Patron of the Legacy Project, Archbishop Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast of the Catholic Church of Ghana.
Also in attendance were the Headmaster, Mr. Ebenezer Acquaah; the Board Chair of Achimota School, Akora Prof. Ernest Aryeetey; the President of the Old Achimotan Association, Akora Joel Nettey; executives and members of the 1986 Year Group; associate celebrating year groups (1976 and 2001); executives of the Old Achimotan Association; distinguished Akoras; teachers; non-teaching staff; students; and invited guests.
In a keynote address, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong congratulated the 1986 Year Group for turning their 40th anniversary into an act of service by renovating the Aggrey Chapel.
“This Legacy Project is not just about bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of gratitude, unity, and service. You are leaving behind something that will bless generations to come,” he said.
Dr. Ofori Sarpong emphasized that the clergy being honoured were more than spiritual leaders but mentors, teachers, and guardians who instilled values of discipline, service, and faith in the students.
“This is more than a ceremony. It is a call to action for all of us. Achimota has given us so much, and now it is our turn to ensure future students benefit even more,” he added.

The Patron of the Legacy Project, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, commended the year group for their vision and commitment, encouraging other alumni groups to follow in their footsteps by investing in projects that will serve both the school and the nation.
The celebration was marked with uplifting performances by Perez Musik, Jackie Ankrah, the Achimota School Choir, the CLOSSAG Band, Samuel Akhurst, and Edem Senanu, who led the congregation in heartfelt hymns, psalms, and worship.
The sod-cutting ceremony symbolized more than just the start of a building project. It represented continuity, responsibility, and the enduring values of Achimota School unity, service, leadership, and integrity.
“As the 1986 Year Group prepares to mark its 40th anniversary in 2026, the launch of the Legacy Project serves as a reminder that true celebration lies not only in looking back with pride but also in investing in the future with purpose.
"Your Legacy Project is a gift not just to Achimota, but to Ghana’s educational and spiritual heritage,” Dr. Ofori Sarpong concluded before declaring the project duly launched.
The evening ended with joy, gratitude, and a renewed call to action for all Akoras — past, present, and future — to come together in the spirit of Achimota’s motto: “Ut Omnes Unum Sint” — “That all may be one.”
