Disney’s Moana is setting sail into the seas and onto the big screens for the third time. The live-action teaser for the remake of the original 2016 animated film Moana recently made its way onto the internet. By the looks of it, it’s a nostalgic ride, or more like a frame-to-frame revisit to the story we already know.
The nearly one-minute teaser opens with a panoramic scenic view and a close-up of the enticing blue ocean. Enters Moana, played by Catherine Laga’aia. Fans get a glimpse of young Moana running after a conch shell and the turquoise “photorealistic” ocean enveloping her. Unmissably, the film’s iconic theme song How Far I'll Go also fills the background.
"I am a girl who loves my island and the girl who loves the sea," Laga'aia sings.
The teaser wraps up with a glimpse of Laga’aia co-star Dwayne Johnson, who plays the trickster demigod Maui in the live-action film and also voiced the same character in the original film and Moana 2.
The cast also includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana’s Gramma Tala.
Director Thomas Kail and penned by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, the live-action Moana hits theaters on July 10, 2026.
