The Konnected Minds Podcast has set a new milestone for Ghana and Africa’s creative industry by staging what organisers describe as the continent’s first full podcast event inside a cinema, signalling a shift in how podcasts are produced and experienced.
The event, titled “Importation”, was held on December 19 at Silverbird Cinemas, Accra Mall, and marked a departure from the traditional use of cinema spaces in Africa, which have largely been reserved for film premieres and major movie screenings. By hosting a podcast in a cinema environment, Konnected Minds demonstrated how the medium can command premium venues and attract live audiences beyond conventional studio settings.
The organisers said while cinema based podcast events have been tried in the United Kingdom, particularly by the podcast “Help I Sexted My Boss”, no African podcast had previously achieved a production of this scale within a cinema setting. The Accra event therefore represents a defining moment for the continent’s growing podcast ecosystem.
The show was hosted by Derrick Abaitey, founder and lead host of Konnected Minds, and featured entrepreneur Aisha Bengai. The session focused on practical business education, with discussions aimed at equipping participants with the mindset, tools and strategies required to succeed in business and in life.
The organisers described the event as highly interactive, noting that it went beyond a traditional talk. Participants were taken through real world business experiences, including an analysis of the Top 5 Selling Products in Ghana, giving attendees insights they could immediately apply to their own ventures.
According to the organisers, “Importation” was not intended as a one off spectacle but as a statement on the potential of podcasts in Ghana and across Africa. They said the event sets a new benchmark for African podcasting by showing that podcasts can deliver high level educational content, attract engaged audiences and meet global standards of production and presentation.
By becoming the first podcast in Africa to host and film an episode inside a cinema, Konnected Minds has positioned itself as a trailblazer in the local media space, with the organisers expressing confidence that the initiative will inspire similar large scale, high quality podcast experiences across the continent.
