Ghanaian music legend Julius Kojo Antwi, popularly known as Kojo Antwi or “Mr. Music Man,” has revealed that although he once identified as a Rastafarian, he now considers himself a “conscious African.”
Known for his signature dreadlocks and ever-present guitar, the veteran musician reflected on the journey behind his iconic look during an appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
“I have lost count of the number of years I have kept my locks. It’s part of me now. I started growing my locks when I was in the classic handles,” he said.
When host Bernard Avle asked whether he still identifies as a Rastafarian, Kojo Antwi responded:
“I used to be one, but I believe I have become more of a conscious African now.”
The revelation comes ahead of the release of his memoir, Mr Music Man: The Journey, scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026 — a book he said took him 18 years to complete.
