Don't expect Zendaya to confirm whether she's a married woman anytime soon.
The star of "The Drama," 29, sat down with costar Robert Pattinson on The New York Times' "Modern Love" podcast in an April 1 episode and explained why she has been declining to reveal if she and Tom Holland have tied the knot.
"There is a level of a parasocial investment in my personal relationship, which I understand, and I'm aware that I'm a public person, and so is he," she said. "And I'm also aware that we've grown up in front of people, and we've done movies where we fall in love with each other, so I really do understand that. I don't want to dismiss that, like, 'Stay out of my business,' or whatever."
But the "Euphoria" star went on to explain why she has sought to maintain privacy in her personal life.
"In a lot of ways, I also am a very private person, and I try my best to be able to have things for myself, and for him as well," he said. "So we do our best, in general, to not hide ourselves from the world, but just to preserve things for ourselves so that we can maintain that joy, just within ourselves and our loved ones and our family."
Speculation about Zendaya's relationship status has swirled in recent weeks after the star's stylist, Law Roach, told Access Hollywood on the red carpet of the Actor Awards that her wedding to Holland "already happened."
"You missed it," Roach claimed, adding that this is "very true."
News of Zendaya's engagement to Tom Holland came after the "Challengers" actress sparked rumors with her red-carpet appearance, wearing a diamond ring at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 5, 2025.
But a month after that comment, neither Zendaya nor Holland has confirmed whether they are married, even as the actress makes the rounds promoting her role in "The Drama." In the film, she plays an engaged woman who makes a shocking revelation to her partner that causes tension during their wedding week.
During an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on March 16, Kimmel mentioned that "the internet has gone berserk with stories that you might actually be married to Tom," to which Zendaya joked, "Really? I haven't seen any of that!" While she didn't confirm or deny the rumors at the time, she made light of the fact that some people had been fooled by fake AI wedding photos that circulated on social media.
"I was out and about in real life and people are like, 'Oh my god, your wedding photos are really gorgeous.' And I was like, 'Babe they're AI.' They're not real,'" she said.

Zendaya gave her answer about maintaining privacy on "Modern Love" after host Anna Martin said she would be "remiss not to ask, as a journalist, if there's anything you want to say about people wondering about whether you're married," adding that if "there was a place to say some news, it might be the 'Modern Love' podcast."
The "Challengers" star declined to break any news, though she touched on her romance with Holland throughout the episode while discussing relationships in general.
"There's a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew that this is my person, because I don't feel nervous around [him]," she shared on the podcast. "I feel really peaceful, and I feel really calm. I feel like, 'Oh, I actually feel more nervous when I'm away from you than when I'm with you.' That's when I was like, 'Ah, that's a good sign.'"
Zendaya and Holland met working together on 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming," in which they played MJ and Peter Parker, respectively. Their characters started off as friends but evolved into love interests in the sequels "Spider-Man: Far From Home" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home." They're both back this summer in July's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."
The actors have always been quite private about their relationship from the beginning and didn't confirm it for several years amid speculation that they were an item. The rumors were confirmed in 2021 after paparazzi photos captured them kissing in a car.
In a GQ profile later that year, Holland said he and Zendaya felt "robbed of our privacy."
"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he said, adding, "I've always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway."
