A 55-year old mason has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for defiling his 12-year old niece.
Kofi Atta pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Police Inspector Martin Asenso told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Adjei Frimpong that the victim's mother is a sister to the convict and that they all live at Deduako in Kumasi.
On Boxing Day, last year, the young girl went to the uncle for Christmas gift but he locked her in his room and sexually assaulted her.
He later forced the victim to swear by the Holy Bible that she would never tell anybody about what she had been through.
Police Inspector Asenso said her big sister, however, detected an unusual change in her and probed to find what was wrong.
The victim told her everything and a complaint, was made to the police at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
He said a signed medical report by doctors, who treated the victim, confirmed she had been defiled.
Atta told the Court, he did not know what came over him to commit the abominable sin.
