A project aimed at promoting a high sense of nationalism among the citizenry has been launched at Obuasi.
Dubbed: "Proud to be Ghanaian Initiative", seeks to inject the spirit of patriotism among Ghanaians, especially the youth.
It is also designed to educate people on positive values that would help them to avoid attitudes that adversely affect the development of the country.
Mr Clarence Ankomah, who is promoting the initiative, told newsmen at Obuasi after the launch that patriotism was crucial to the nation's socio-economic progress.
He said it was important for Ghanaians to exhibit a sense of dedication and commitment wherever they found themselves and to also appreciate and practice morality.
"Our goal is to develop positive educative concepts to promote and boost the morale of the citizens both in and outside the country so as to unite us for accelerated growth and development", he said.
He said a vigorous campaign would be undertaken to encourage the people to support economic growth through tourism, trade, education and the patronage of made-in-Ghana goods.
"The Proud to be Ghanaian Initiative, is working hard to spread the word throughout the country for people to realize what they can do to help build Ghana to an acceptable status", Mr Ankomah said.
He said a number of activities including clean-up exercises, drama, distribution of Ghana flags to schools and cultural displays had been lined up to help rekindle the patriotic "instincts" in Ghanaians.
