A large number of youth currently on the National
Youth Employment programme (NYEP) on Tuesday besieged the premises of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) demanding the payment of outstanding five months salary.
The group, made up of the health assistants and the community protection units (CPU) had apparently been invited to a meeting by their coordinators of which they advantage to press home their grievance.
At about 1130 today, when they realised that their the salaries will not be paid, they stormed out of the conference room amidst shouting aiming
for the finance and NYEP offices only to meet empty desks.
They later marched towards the official residence of the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Paul E. Aidoo.
One of the health assistants in an interview with the GNA said for five months now their salaries have not been paid and it was making life
unbearable for them.
Mr. Zak Abdulai, the Metropolitan Coordinating Director,STMA, said he assured the group that it was likely that they will be paid by March 12 and
urged them to exercise restraint.
