A teenage porter has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Ash-Town District Court-One for stealing GH¢938.00 belonging to a trader.
Kwesi Adorkor pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police Chief Inspector Mark Agyemang told the court presided over by Mr Solomon Kofi Achinah that the complainant, Ms Comfort Aminla, owns a store at Kejetia and at times engages the porter to buy goods for her.
On March 11 this year, at about 1430 hours she gave GH¢938.00 to Adorkor to buy her a quantity of edible oil and bags of rice at Adum.
She sent along with the convict one David.
Police Chief Inspector Agyemang said Adorkor tricked David to wait for him at a spot while he bought the rice from a nearby store.
He went straight to Allar-Bar, where he spent GH¢75.00 of the money on a bicycle and joined a Tamale-bound vehicle.
David after a long wait returned to the complainant, who became alarmed, rushed to the Tamale lorry station at Alla-Bar, where she saw Adorkor on a bus.
The prosecution said with the assistance of some people, he was arrested and handed him over to the police.
An amount of GH¢380 was retrieved from him by the police during a body search.
He told the police that he had given the remaining GH¢483 to one Elijah, his friend but he could not be traced.
