A tiger which stepped into a nearby village here and disappeared into the Burgur forests after killing a buffalo triggered panic in Erode district of south Indian state Tamil Nadu.
According to forest officials, local people had spotted the wild cat first in the Dholli forest area.
It sprang from a bush when a farmer was tending to his cattle in the Dholli forest area. On seeing the animal, the farmer fled leaving behind his pets.
Later wildlife officials said the half-eaten carcass of the buffalo was found in the area.
Fearing the animal would come back, the forest personnel asked villagers not to go to the area and also not to tend their cattle there in the afternoon.
