Mr George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN has urged parents to inculcate the habit of reading in their children when they are young.
He observed that besides promoting a child's cerebral and emotional development, reading was a sure way for parents to gain positive foothold
into their children's life.
Mr Andah was speaking at the launch of the "Happy Minds Reading Club" at the Nima cluster of schools as part of the "21 Days of Yellow Care".
According to a release by the Media Relations Department of MTN, the mobile telephone market leader, the "Yellow Care" affords MTN staff the
opportunity to venture out to affect the community in diverse ways.
Mr Andah observed that though the Internet was a huge learning resource for children and adults as well, a good reading ability should come first and foremost.
The release said the launch of the "Happy Minds Reading Club" was held concurrently across five different communities in the country,
including the All Saints and Bonsu Junior High Schools in Tarkoradi.
Books worth several thousands of cedis, the release said, were donated to the schools and communities to start or increase stock of libraries.
The 2010 Y'ello Care campaign, the fourth edition is themed; "United We Care for Our Communities" and focused on malaria eradication, education and football related projects.
During the 21 days, MTN staff members were engaged in spraying against mosquitoes in Takoradi, Ashaiman, where people were screened for malaria,
and insecticides distributed.
According to the release, the antenatal department, diabetic and psychiatric wards of the Koforidua General Hospital were also painted among other host of outreach programmes across the country.
