The Akim Oda Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region, has remanded in police custody, two unemployed persons for allegedly possession large quantity of Indian hemp.
Nana Baah, 55 and Kwasi Yeboah, 49, whose pleas were not taken by the court, presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, are to reappear on May 28,
2010.
Police Inspector Wilberforce Kwaku Appiah wanted the court to remand the accused persons, to enable the police to conduct further investigations
to reprimand and arrest other accomplices in the case who are now on run.
Baah described by the police as a notorious drug addict, had been on the police wanted list for years.
The 55-year-old drug addict stated openly in court that he had been in the drug business for several years and that he felt healthier whenever he smoked and explained why he had not attended hospital before.
The court held that on May 10, this year at about 0500 hours the police had a tip-off and proceeded to a ghetto at Akim Asene Old Town where Baah and Yeboah were spotted having in their possession large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police succeeded in arresting the two accused persons, but the other accomplices managed to abscond.
